On April 26, Health Affairs will join with the Society of Health Policy Young Professionals to host a Lunch and Learn event on the topic, “Food Insecurity and Other Health-Related Social Needs Among Older Adults.”

The session will focus on a new study appearing in the April 2022 issue of Health Affairs, “Health-Related Social Needs Among Older Adults Enrolled In Medicare Advantage (MA).” Authors Brian W. Powers and Stephanie M. Franklin, both of Humana, will present the findings of a large, national survey of older adults enrolled in MA, which found a high burden of health-related social needs, including financial strain, food insecurity, and poor housing quality, as well as significant disparities according to race, socioeconomic status, and sex. They will be joined by Monica E. Peek of the University of Chicago, a frequent Health Affairs contributor, whose work – including the 2021 Forefront article, “As They Take On Food Insecurity, Community-Based Health Care Organizations Have Found Four Strategies That Work” — explores many of the same issues.

Register today for this timely discussion of new data and policy prescriptions related to social determinants of health and equity. Health Affairs Deputy Editor Rob Lott will host.
