Peterson Center on Healthcare Launches Institute to Evaluate Digital Health Technologies

July 19, 2023

The Peterson Center on Healthcare has launched the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI). The PHTI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to evaluating and assessing innovative healthcare technologies. With a $50 million commitment from the Peterson Center, PHTI aims to analyze the clinical benefits, cost-effectiveness, health equity impacts, and security and privacy of digital health tools, addressing the existing information gap for patients, healthcare providers, and investors. The organization will develop a distinct evaluation framework for these tools in collaboration with the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER).

The goal of the PHTI is not only to identify promising new digital health solutions but also to expose the products that are not delivering their claimed benefits. The global digital health market is expected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2030, making the evaluation of these tools critical.
