Xcenda Explores the EU’s Transition To a Joint HTA Assessment Framework

March 9, 2022

The EU began its transition to a pan-European health technology assessment (HTA) framework this January. Xcenda covers this process in a recent article. In it, the authors cover the guidelines of the new system, how it will affect member countries and the implementation timeframe. The critical piece of the new process is the Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA)

According to the authors, The JCA will be organized and coordinated by the “Member State Coordination Group on Health Technology Assessment” (Coordination Group) that will be composed of representatives of all EU member states. Similar to the scientific evaluation of marketing authorization applications by the EMA, the JCA will be conducted by an assessor and co-assessor. These assessors will be from different member states and will carry out the clinical assessment, prepare a draft report, and consult relevant stakeholders.”
