Reuters white paper: Building a Framework for Decentralized Clinical Trials in a Hybrid Future

The future of clinical trials is moving towards a field with decentralized, site-based, and hybrid trials that combine elements of each format. As a result, a new infrastructure is needed to facilitate and take full advantage of hybrid clinical trials. This could avoid a generalization of clinical trials that optimize each study for its most appropriate format.

According to the white paper, ”Many in the industry concur that, even though DCTs offer the potential for remote participation in clinical trials, many trials do not lend themselves to full remote participation. Some trials will, therefore continue to be site-based trials. Others will be fully decentralized, while yet others will offer a combination of site-based and remote-based components. In-person visits are needed in many instances to ensure patient safety and data integrity.”
