Regulating Drug Prices: What’s the Best System?

A recent Pharmafile article weighs the pros and cons of several large health care systems’ approach to controlling the price of pharmaceuticals.

While drugmakers are able to set the price tag in the U.S., the article states, some health care systems implement unique criteria for new treatments and the prices of those drugs.

The U.K.’s NHS has a strict ruleset for dealing with new drugs, but Germany finds itself closer in the middle with a system that “uses collective negotiations to keep drug prices substantially lower.”
