Overcoming Patient Recruitment Projection Challenges

According to the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development, 37% of clinical trials miss enrollment targets. This is the most cited reason for the discontinuation of clinical trials and has pharma and the biotech industry at least $40 billion USD. Experts at Cytel have proposed a model-based approach to recruitment projections.

According to Cytel, “A model-based approach advocated by Cytel experts enables a somewhat different line of reasoning. Instead of asking how long will it take to enroll 1000 patients, we can instead ask what is the probability that 1000 patients will be enrolled in fifteen months, twenty months or thirty months.”
