Machine Learning Offers Insights on COVID-19 ICU Utilization

The influx of COVID-19 patients pushed intensive care units (ICUs) to the breaking point in early 2021. Triaging who would or would not receive intensive care was, and is, a challenging life or death endeavor. Panalgo, a healthcare analytics software provider, applied its machine learning techniques to help assess patients.

According to Panalgo, “Machine learning is a powerful tool in the RWE toolbox for prediction and inference. Researchers used Panalgo’s Data Science machine learning module to identify the strongest predictors of ICU utilization. This level of predictive modeling uncovered novel insights that could be used to improve decision-making for triaging COVID-19 patients and managing ICU resources.”
