India Unveils New Digital Health Platform and Mental Telehealth Projects

Two new digital health projects have just been announced by the Indian Government. The first is the Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission (ABDM), an open platform to unify the nation’s digital health ecosystem. The second project, as detailed by India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the recent Union Budget 2022-2023 speech, implements a national telehealth program for mental healthcare.

According to Adam Ang of Healthcare IT News, “Sitharaman also disclosed that a national tele-mental health programme will be rolled out to provide better access to quality mental health counselling and care services. It will consist of a network of 23 tele-mental health centres of excellence with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences serving at its core and the International Institute of Information Technology-Bangalore providing technology support.”
