Democrats Torn over Insulin Cost Cap

Sen. Raphael Warnock’s (D-Ga.) proposed bill to cap out-of-pocket insulin prices at $35 per month is facing scrutiny from other Senate Democrats. While Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has pledged to make the bill a priority for the Democrats in the upcoming weeks, others in the party express concerns that the bill may take the wind out of the sails for broader drug pricing reform.

According to Alex Ruoff of Bloomberg Law, “Some vocal advocates for Democrats’ sweeping changes to drug pricing say they’re worried action on one measure could mean leaving the rest of the agenda behind. Broad measures were included in the Build Back Better domestic spending package (H.R. 5376) that’s stalled in the Senate.”
