Democrats Prepare for Next Attempt to Lower Prescription Drug Prices

On the heels of Democrats’ recent failure to pass the Build Back Better bill, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has informed senators of plans to push forward a new package that would lower prescription drug prices, among other agenda items. The Senate Finance  Committee is preparing hearing next week to tackle rising drug prices. However, many in the party are skeptical of the success of any such legislation due to disagreements within the party.

According to Politico’s Prescription Pulse, “While Democrats broadly agree on tackling drug prices, taxing the rich in some fashion and combating climate change, they are nowhere near agreement on the details. “We have to deal with the reality of a 50-vote margin when we have two members who don’t agree with the other 48,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said in reference to Sens. Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.).”
