Critical Path Institute and Tufts Medical Center Announce New Real-World Data Collaboration

March 10, 2022

A new collaboration has been announced by the Critical Path Institute (C-Path) and Tufts Medical Center to use real-world data (RWD) to advance neonatal care. C-Path has been transferred over 5,900 deidentified electronic health records (EHR) to convert into actionable real-world evidence (RWE) that could be used to generate reference ranges for neonatal lab results and develop a model for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) disease progression, which commonly affects babies born prematurely.

According to C-Path, “Patients and families of neonates will benefit from this project given that the data willenable use of laboratory values as actionable markers in neonatal trials. For BPD patients, it will help improve the understanding of the condition, how it progresses, what the risk factors are, and how these risk factors relate to long term outcomes such as the development of asthma. Importantly, it will lead to better and more focused patient enrollment for BPD trials — potentially leading to the development of novel drugs to treat this important condition.”
