Congress Begins Two-Week Recess with No Decision on COVID-19 Relief Bill

Members of the US Congress have left for their 2-week recess with progress stalled on the next round of COVID-19 relief. The $10 billion deal had been agreed upon by negotiators within the Senate on April 4th, but was swiftly blocked the next day by Republican legislators, who refuse to support the bill unless pandemic-related immigration limits are maintained.

According to Molly Gamble of Beckers Hospital Review, “It’s possible senators will be able to find a way forward after recess, but it’s not clear the 10 Republican votes needed will materialize without a vote on the immigration amendment, CNN reports. Lawmakers return to session the week of April 25.”
