Canon Medical and Olympus Partner to Enhance Endoscopic Ultrasonography and Expand Global Reach

January 15, 2024

Canon Medical Systems and Olympus have partnered to enhance the image quality of Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EUS) and expand their market presence in Japan and Europe. Canon Medical will develop and manufacture diagnostic ultrasound systems specifically for EUS, while Olympus will handle sales and marketing. The collaboration aims to grow in the diagnostic imaging market, initially focusing on Japan before expanding into Europe.

Compared to traditional body surface approaches, EUS combines ultrasound with endoscopy, allowing clinicians to get more explicit images of outer organs from the stomach and duodenum. This partnership leverages Canon’s expertise in diagnostic ultrasound systems, including its Aplio i8002 system and Olympus’ proficiency in endoscopy.

Both companies seek to deliver superior solutions for early disease detection. This announcement follows Canon’s success in improving pediatric x-ray image quality and Olympus obtaining 510(k) clearance in the US for its EndoSound’s Vision system, an endoscopic ultrasound device. They are committed to improving patient care through advanced technology in EUS.
