AWS Leader Discusses Improving Patient Outcomes Using Predictive AI, Machine Learning, and Data Interoperability Tools

August 25, 2021

Phoebe Yang, general manager for nonprofit healthcare at Amazon Web Services (AWS), shares her thoughts on how modern tools, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data interoperability, can be used to improve patient outcomes. The benefits of these solutions range from effectively predicting disease to reducing healthcare expenses to addressing healthcare disparities.

Yang remarks, “The key to predictive, personalized medicine is data liquidity. Syntactic interoperability (a common structure) and semantic interoperability (a common language) can help practitioners combine an individual patient’s own data, at new levels of completeness and detail, with anonymized large-population patient data, including genomics,” adding, “AI/machine learning-based learning models can use that large, detailed view to predict specific, individual health threats with unprecedented accuracy.” Read more here.
