Report: Drugmakers Engaging in ‘Science by Press Release’

Drugmakers are increasingly taking up a tactic to make their experimental products stand out, according to a Politico report: “science by press release.”
Experts tell Politico the strategy could ultimately have negative consequences.
“There’s a long history of pharmaceutical manufacturers putting out self-serving press releases related to clinical trial data that they’re developing that present an overly rosy picture of the data, usually with a boilerplate disclaimer at the end, which is fairly useless,” Harvard Medical School professor of medicine Aaron Kesselheim tells Politico.
